Love

Loving someone can help both the lover and the person being loved to become a better person.
Some one who has never been loved or isn't familiar with the feeling will be insecure and closed about their feelings. The might become arogant and very individual because that't how they've been treated.
By being loved it opens up your heart to being a kinder person. Your familiar with the feeling and want others to feel it too.
Love can definitely help others to become a better person just by experiencing a new feeling.

Maddie is seeking love because she, herself does not feel love from her family, boyfriend and only has one friend. She craves Carl's family because he has a lot of freedom, he is able to do as he likes, but he doesn't see this as Maddie does. Maddie is deserted in Wiseman's cove with no friends, technology, media etc. She's take Carl's lifestyle for granted because she does not have it. Maddie wants to be loved, and she'll do anything to get it. She puts up with her boyfriend treating her unfairly in the misconception that it is love she wants to love someone so that she will be loved. Both Carl and Maddie are seeking love in different ways. He wants a family and she wants relationships.

Carl isn't different from anyone else in his need to be loved. Everyone needs to be loved, and will seek it continuously through out their lifetime. To be loved is humane, something that is necessary in life. Carl's need to be loved is rare in this society because most people has atleast one parent or gaurdian that loves them.

The phrase 'Love Hurts' has a lot of meaning to it. You could love some one but they do not share the same love for you. You could not be loved at all. You could be cheated by love. Lead on by love. You could become so dependent on love that you fall for anyone and always get hurt over and over again.
Love can hurt, but usually it is nice.

Belonging

I belong to a family,
To a group of friends,
To a pilates class
To a TAFE course
To a school

Some of these groups are more important than others and for different reasons.
Friends and family are important for relationships.
TAFE and school are important for education.
And pilates is important for health.

People need to feel like they belong to something so that they feel loved, comfortable being who they are and special. Being part of something makes you feel like you're needed and wanted.

It was important for Carl to feel wanted and needed, especially in a family because Carl had never felt these emotions. Carl has been abandoned by his own mother and sister, he definately did not feel loved, he did not feel he belonged. Finding the Duncan's gave him a sense of love, need and want. The Duncan's needed Carl to make the extra money on the barge so that he could keep his job and to support his family. For the first time Carl feels as if he belongs somewhere. He belongs at the barge working for the Duncan's so that he support their family and his brother and himself.

Human Rights

A right is something everyone is enititled to without any obligations.

A right that I think should be added to the list is the right to to gay marriage.
Rights that are most important to me is the right to freedom, food, shelter and education.
Rights apply to every one, that is why they are in place. If any right did not apply to a person it would be unfair.

In the classroom my rights are freedom to thought/speech, be and to treat/treated with respect, right to education and not to be treated with slavery.

My rights to others in the classroom are respect, right to privacy and a right to an education,.

If I was Aunt Beryl...

If I was Aunt Beryl and I wanted to control Harley and keep him out of trouble I'd find a punishment that was effective but suitable. I'd speak to him calmly and aware him of the consequences of running away and getting into trouble. I'd award him if stayed home and encourage the good behavior. I'd take interest in his hobbies and encourage him to do well in them so that we would bond and he would gain respect for me. This would make him think twice about getting into trouble.

Bridge To Wiseman's Cove

This is my year 11 English Blog.
We are reading a book called 'A Bridge To Wiseman's Cove' by James Moloney.
The book is about a unnuclear family who has a lot of troubles. The main characters are Kerry, Carl, Sarah, Harley, and Aunt Beryl. Kerry the mother, runs away and leaves the family to live by themselves. Sarah the eldest of the children, decides to sell the house and leave to go on a holiday. She sends her two brothers to their Aunt Beryl's house without saying she's never coming back. Carl is insecure but understands the situation that is happening and tries his best to look out for his younger brother. Harley is oblivious and is only concerned about fitting in to the new town. Aunt Beryl doesn't want the kids because she knows that her sister isn't going to come back. Overall the entire family is poor and struggles to support eachother.
'A Bridge To Wiseman's Cove' is set in Wattle Bay but based in Tincan Bay on Fraser Island.
