Loving someone can help both the lover and the person being loved to become a better person.
Some one who has never been loved or isn't familiar with the feeling will be insecure and closed about their feelings. The might become arogant and very individual because that't how they've been treated.

Maddie is deserted in Wiseman's cove with no friends, technology, media etc. She's take Carl's lifestyle for granted because she does not have it.
